Tools, Tips, and Tactics - How to Find a Job in a Tough Economy
Principal Kenneth Roberts' presentation Tools, Tips, and Tactics - How to Find a Job in a Tough Economy has recently been approved for CEU credit by the Interior Design Continuing Education Council (IDCEC). American Society of Interior Designers (ASID), International Interior Design Association (IIDA), and The International Design Center (IDC) participants may earn 0.1 (1 hr) CEU credit for the one hour seminar. Both in-person and webinar formats have been approved.
ASID Practitioner Members (both Allied and Professional) are now required to earn 0.6 CEUs (6 hours) every 2 years. The deadline to report CEUs is Dec. 31, 2009. IIDA Practitioner Members (both Associate and Professional) are required to earn 1.0 CEUs (10 hours) every 2 years.
The industry specific presentation covers several topics on how to get a position in the current economic downturn, including
• Customized industry and segment specific webinar
• Creating a strong resume and cover letter
• Building an effective project list and portfolio
• Leveraging the internet to uncover opportunities
• Tips to networking and marketing yourself
• The key market segments poised for growth
• How to translate your skills to a different sector
Kenneth has given this presentation at several speaking engagements with ASID and their many chapters. Pam Durkin, President of the Florida South ASID Chapter attests to the effectiveness of the presentation.
"We actually hired Ken to speak at two career days. Our chapter is so large that we held one on the east coast and another on the west coast of Florida. His presentation was excellent. He gave specific examples to the students on how to properly prepare a cover letter and resume. He talked about how to brand oneself and make the best impression possible with a potential employer. He talked about how to network and use the internet to access job opportunities, both advertised and unadvertised. I would definitely recommend having him speak to your students! Some students even attended both events so as to see him again!"
About Plinth & Chintz
Plinth and Chintz is a newsletter and web site dedicated to design, education, and the transition into the interior design world. Their mission is to bridge the gap between the student/educational community and the professional/manufacturer community of the interior design world, "and not to die of boredom while [they] do it." This hip concept to understanding the ins and outs of the real interior design industry is the brainchild of Interior Designer Laura McDonald, IIDA and ASID member. Prior to Plinth & Chintz, McDonald worked at Furstenwerth + Bagley Design in Dallas, Texas. For more information, visit www.plinthandchintz.com.
