COSTA MESA, CA, September 15, 2009 /Architecture PR News/ -- Watershapes magazine recently posted an exclusive interview they conducted in August 2009, with watershape designer and Genesis 3 Platinum member, Randy Beard of Pure Water Pools in Costa Mesa, California. The interview traced his career from the 19 year-old swimming pool technician who cleaned pools in exchange for his apartment rent, to the business entrepreneur and co-owner of Pure Water Pools, which employed dozens of technicians and serviced hundreds of pool s weekly, including the contracts for regular maintenance of all the 24hr Fitness Centers in Los Angeles and Orange Counties.
The article also records his change in business focus from service to construction, and his involvement with the Genesis 3 design group which fostered his creative ambitions. His constant desire to stretch the physical limitations of construction to include any and all that can be imagined, has led him to be one of the few designers and builders nationally sought after by customers who dream of new and different illusions. He has carefully chosen employees who all share his desire for perfection and need for creativity. Pure Water Pools' reputation in Southern California reflects his ambition and high standards, and this article chronicles it all.
About Pure Water Pools
Randy Beard is a builder of elaborate and complicated pools mainly in the Newport Beach area of Orange County, California, with in-house crews who perform forming, plumbing, electrical, and all tile and masonry. Randy began his career at an early age when an uncle, who was a swimming pool serviceman, showed Randy how to maintain and repair his family's home pool. By high school, he was running his own route and he even bartered service for rent on his first apartment at 17. He became an active member of IPSSA in Orange County, where he was born, and his service route grew each year. The maintenance repairs became larger repairs, which became remodels, which became new pool construction. He always felt trade associations were important so over the years he has been quite active as the liaison from IPSSA to National Plasterer's Council, on the board for Pool Safety Alliance, and on IPSSA's regional board.
In 2000, he attended the Genesis school in Morro Bay, and absorbed the ideal of raising the bar on the quality of pool construction. He has embraced new ideas with the attitude "Let's make it work" instead of "it can't be done", just because it hasn't been done. He has mastered the construction of many unusual water effects such as negative edges, disappearing perimeter overflows, glass and mosaic tile installation, and often plays with fire in backyards. He continues to apply new techniques and illusions to water features and views an architect's vision as a challenge full of new possibilities to create reality from imagination.
